Is Glen Eyrie really a castle?!
Founded in 1871, Glen Eyrie was the home of William Jackson Palmer. Palmer was a Brigadier General in the Union Army during the Civil War, president of The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad, and founder of Colorado Springs. Glen Eyrie is the current headquarters of the Navigators ministry, including NavPress.
Other common questions:
What is included with my retreat ticket?
Tickets include 2 nights’ lodging, 6 meals, and all conference materials. Double-occupancy rooms cover lodging, meals, and conference materials for both roommates (roommates split the cost between them). Commuter pricing (for those not staying overnight at Glen Eyrie) covers registration as well as lunch and dinner during the retreat. (Travel to Glen Eyrie plus meals needed before or after the retreat is the responsibility of each individual.)
How does sharing a room work?
You (or your roommate) will book a double-occupancy room. Then, call Glen Eyrie’s reservations line (719-265-7050) to add your roommate’s first and last name, t-shirt size, email address, mailing address, and any dietary restrictions. Between the two of you, determine how to split the cost.
Need a roommate but don’t know who to share a room with? Reach out to us at info@daughtersfirstretreat.com and we will connect you to potential roommates.
When does the conference begin and end?
Check in and Meet & Greet begins at 2pm on Monday, March 23. The retreat ends at 2:30pm on Wednesday, March 25.
Can I extend my stay at Glen Eyrie?
If you’d like to come earlier or stay after your retreat dates, lodging is available at a Programs discounted rate. Please call Glen Eyrie’s reservations line at 719-265-7050 for details.
What size bed is in the upgraded rooms?
Rooms in the Castle have one queen bed. Rooms in the Pink House and Eagles Nest have one king bed. Double occupancy for these rooms means sharing one bed.
Which airport should I fly into?
The castle is 25 minutes from the Colorado Springs airport and 1.5 hours from the Denver airport.
How is the Daughters First Retreat different from a conference?
We go to conferences to learn how to do our craft better and to meet other communicators. Daughters First is less about the what of your craft and more about tending to your own soul. You’ll still be meeting other communicators, but not in a way that feels like networking. Rather, you’ll be developing relationships that will help you tend your soul as you pour out for others.
How is the Daughters First Retreat different from a writing retreat?
A writing retreat has time set aside for writing. While you’re welcome to do some work while at our retreat, we hope you’ll set it aside for most of your time and simply enjoy being with Jesus and with other women who love Him.
What should I pack?
Weekend attire is casual. Be prepared to do lots of walking. Our weather can be unpredictable, so pack layers. And don’t forget to bring your Bible!
What should I NOT pack?
Do not bring business cards, a book proposal, a one sheet, or your headshot. Leave your business attire and elevator pitch at home. Even our name tags will be first name only, so discard your 150-word bio at the gate and come as just you, fellow Daughter of the King. Instead of asking new friends, “What do you do?” come ready to ask, “What is God teaching you?”
